Dashboards & BI Success

Gain a Single Source of Truth on Your Data

When it comes to analyzing data, disagreements on how to "pull data" can quickly lead to confusion and errors. Questions like "what are the rules for stock pushes?" or "do we use book value or current value?" can be difficult to answer without a clear data governance plan in place. That's why we consider and execute the following parameters in our business intelligence/data warehouse projects:

Automatic Documentation: Properly done documentation increases readability, accessibility, linkability, compliance, and more.

Improved Data Quality: data completeness, consistency, and accuracy

Attain a 'Single Version of the Truth': Get you a 360-degree view of each customer and business entity and activities.

Data Mapping: Visualize how each data entity relates to each other.

Consistent Compliance: Ensure all your data adheres to regulations, such as the US HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), and industry requirements.

Data Cleansing, Enrichment, and Validation: Put high-quality data in your system is crucial for yielding high-quality results. Little adjustments to accuracy can quickly snowball into large margins of error later on.

Automatic Documentation: Properly done documentation increases readability, accessibility, linkability, compliance, and more.

Is your data a Lake?

Or a Swamp?

Using Power BI

Power BI is a powerful business intelligence tool that can help organizations transform data into actionable insights. With Power BI, companies can connect to a wide range of data sources, create interactive visualizations, and share reports and dashboards with stakeholders. One of the key advantages of Power BI is its ability to bring together data from disparate sources into a single, unified view. By connecting to various data sources, including spreadsheets, databases, and cloud-based services, organizations can create a single lens of their data.

However, to extract great insights from Power BI, it is crucial to use it right. One issue that arises is the ballooning of file sizes when too many sources are used. This can make the end product unusable, with 100-gigabyte files being not uncommon for mid-sized businesses trying to get a landscape of their day-to-day operations. At this size (and above), the file starts crashing and becomes impossible to edit or fix.

This leads to the creation of multiple files by different teams, with each file providing different "numbers" and sources of truth. This, in turn, leads to conflicts and arguments over which set of numbers is correct.

If this story sounds familiar, we have a solution. The data from existing systems needs to be filtered, cleaned, and organized into a data mart. This creates a single source of truth for the business. Power BI and even Excel can be pulled from the data mart, resulting in a file that is kilobytes, not gigabytes. This approach ensures that all teams are working with the same set of data, eliminating the discrepancies and arguments over which set of numbers is correct.

At our core, we prioritize delivering solutions that help our clients achieve their business objectives through actionable insights. If you are looking to get the most out of your data using Power BI, contact us today!
